Frequently Asked Questions

Is LA pet friendly?

Los Angeles is one of the most pet-friendly cities in the country, with lots of activities that you can do with your pup. You can walk with your canine friend on the world-famous Hollywood Walk of Fame and check out the attractions on Hollywood Boulevard. You can see the Hollywood sign by visiting Lake Hollywood Park with your dog or hiking Griffith Park to get an up-close view of the sign. Then swim at Rosie’s Dog Beach, which is 4.1 acres of sand, and surf along the Pacific coastline which is the only off-leash dog beach in the county.

Do you need a dog license in Los Angeles?
In Los Angeles, all dogs must be licensed after the age of four months. The city also requires that dogs after the age of four months must be spayed or neutered. To apply for a license, a copy of rabies vaccination and surgical sterilization must be submitted.
Can landlords legally say no to pets?

Los Angeles landlords have the legal right to decide whether or not to allow pets on the property (except for service animals which landlords are required to accommodate on the property). You can maintain a no-pet policy or you can make decisions on a case-by-case basis as long as you provide in writing within 28 days of a written request from the tenant. Even if you do allow pets, you'll likely have a pet fee or a deposit that's collected. Some owners charge pet rent for each animal.

How much does it cost to have a dog in LA?
The dog license fee in Los Angeles for spayed and neutered dogs is $20 for one year and $55 for 3 years.
Are dogs allowed on beaches in Los Angeles?

Unfortunately, all city and county rules are strictly against dogs on the beach even when leashed. There is only one off-leash area for dogs and it is in Long Beach. There is another area where dogs are allowed, but only if they are on a leash. Two coastal parks are dog-friendly, but their beaches are not.
